Ten Keys to Successful Music

Questions to ask yourself: Does my song fit into a known genre? Is it recognizable as: Pop, Rock, Metal, Jazz, R&B, Rap, Country, World, Electronic, Soundtrack, New Age, Latino, Alternative, Blues, Independent, Punk, Novelty, etc. Is the style current, modern and new? Does a known sub-genre better describe my song than the primary genre?

Tip 1: Select a known genre for each song you want to promote. Then select a sub-genre or style that best describes your song.

Tip 2: Discover and study five to ten new songs in that genre and ask yourself how your music fits in. If anything is obviously different, you’ll know exactly where to start to improve the chances of success for your music. Find new music that is making itself successful. You won’t learn much from material you’re already familiar with.
