Brief Introduction
- What are Pivot Points?
Pivot Points are simply little nuggets of advice; pointers that allow you to look at your music from a different perspective. That’s really it in a nutshell. They’re called Pivot Points because they’re important (pivotal) and relatively specific ideas (points) that can steer you closer to success with your music.
- Who is this eBook for?
Songwriters, producers, musicians, bands, composers, recording engineers, DJs and anyone that wants more success for their music. If your goals include broadcasting or distributing your recorded music, this eBook is for you. If you want to make your current songs better, improve your next production, or distribute and sell your live recordings, this eBook is for you.
- Definition of Successful Music
For the purpose of this eBook, successful music can be defined as music that’s artistically expressive, purposeful and commercially viable. There are distinctions to be made between amateur music, critically acclaimed music and commercially viable music. It all has its own merit but we will focus specifically on giving your recordings the opportunity for commercial success.
Commercial success has a much broader definition than simply ending up on mainstream radio. Radio is only one broadcast avenue and there are countless other ways for songs and music to enjoy commercial success. This eBook is aimed at music that is intended to be broadcast or distributed to the public but isn’t limited to targeting any one media outlet.
- Fundamentals, not Rules
There are always exceptions to the rules. That’s why we won’t be listing out any tedious rules. We’ll simply consider the fundamentals that allow you to improve your music along established criteria. For every successful song that doesn’t align with these ten fundamentals, there are nine hit songs that do.
